If you’ve ever thought, “I wish my team would just take more ownership”, you’re not alone.

When we see a lack of accountability we can see it is a behavioural issue.

That may be the case, but, it can also point to a lack of clarity.

When roles blur, priorities shift, and no one is clear what “done” looks like, accountability breaks down. And that can still be the case with a team of great people.

True accountability starts with 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆:
✅ Clear roles and responsibilities
✅ Clear priorities (not a diverse list of tasks)
✅ Clear outcomes with owners and due dates

In EOS, tools like the 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁 and 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 are used to remove the fog.
Once people know 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 what they’re responsible for, and what success looks like, they rise to it.

I’ve worked with teams who thought their people just “weren’t accountable.”
But once ownership was crystal-clear and a rhythm to report progress created, accountability became the norm.

➡️No blame. No ambiguity. Just traction.

If accountability feels like a struggle, don’t create more pressure, invest in creating clarity.

Ask yourself:
Does each person on my team know exactly what they own?

If not, plan to work on improving clarity, holding people to account and seeing improvement in ownership.
